Group Leader : Maggie Garrard

A love of reading is obviously important to our group, but we want it to be fun and not a chore, so tea, biscuits and setting the world to rights sit alongside our book reviews on the third Tuesday in the month. Having found local libraries increasingly unable to supply multiple copies of books that we actually want to read, we are using e-readers, reading apps or websites to buy our books at hugely reduced prices.

We cover a wide range of genres in our reading and try to choose books based on our members' recommendations. There are times when we all love a book or heartily dislike it - that post-modernist novel springs to mind - but the best discussions are always when the book divides the group. Have we all been reading the same book? We joined the group because we wanted to break out of our normal reading habits and dip a toe in the wider literary world, and that has certainly worked.
